July 7, 2004 - The Medical Education Institute has launcheed a home dialysis web site. According to the web site, about 14% of people on dialysis are doing some type of home dialysis; down from about 60% before Medicare began paying for dialysis in 1973.

October 2, 2003 - Today's issue of The Wall Street Journal (web site) has a Page One article entitled "Longer Dialysis Offers New Hope But Poses Dilemma". The article is only available on-line to paid subscribers.

The article highlights the benefits of daily nocturnal hemodialysis programs experienced by the limited number of patients receiving these treatments. The article also provides details the cost issues involved and the lack of Medicare and private insurance coverage for this therapy.

July 1, 2003 - The American Journal of Kidney Diseases (AJKD) has issued a supplemental issue dedicated to daily hemodialysis.

"Quotidian dialysis: The London, Ontario experience" - AJKD July 2003, Supplement 1. There are eleven abstracts and two full-text summaries.

March 11, 2003 - Umberto Buoncristiani, a Professor of Nephrology at the University of Perugia Medical School, has published a slide presentation (with audio) on short daily hemodialysis to the web.

November 13, 2002 - A provincial pilot project that allows dialysis patients across British Columbia, Canada to undergo treatment while they sleep, is showing great promise. Story from Canada Newswire.

The December issue of Kidney International (KI) has a study entitled, "Cost savings of home nocturnal versus conventional in-center hemodialysis". Abstract from KI.


October 16, 2002 - The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) has issued guidance to the NHS in England and Wales on home compared with hospital haemodialysis for patients with end-stage renal failure. Five documents are part of this appraisal.
